Adding Video to Your Home Page

When you have finished this project, you will be able to:
add video to your Web page
download and use video files
use a media player program

describe the following terms:

  • avi file
  • mpeg file

  1. Create a new folder called Video. Save all files associated with this project in this folder. Just as graphic files needed to be saved in the same folder as the html file, sound files need to be in the same folder as the page you are now going to create.

  2. Start a web page as you usually would. Save the file as index.htm or index.html.

  3. The easiest method of using a video file is to download it from the Internet. Do a search for AVI FILES. Download two files. There are also some video files in the handouts folder.

  4. You must use public domain files - files for which you have permission to use on your web page.

  5. Create an A HREF for the video file. When the link is clicked, the video should play using the Windows Media Player.

  6. Repeat this for the other files - for a total of two video files associated with your page.

  7. Add at least one MPEG video to your page.

  8. The next step will be to add a video file that you have created.

  9. Ask your teacher for the video camera. Have a partner record a short greeting that you make.

  10. Download the video onto your H: drive using the Digital Imaging Workstation.

  11. As part of the link, add an image source for a picture of you. Change the text of the link to read "click on me to hear my greeting".

  12. Next add some appropriate, meaningful content to your page based on what you have learned about HTML scripting.

  13. Test and revise the page as necessary.

  14. Click here to see the marking guide for this project.

  15. Save the project folder in your "Hand In" folder on your personal disk space so that this project can be graded..
