Creating Action Buttons in a Flash Movie


  When you have finished this project, you will be able to:
create action buttons in a Flash movie
create a button the advances the Flash movie
create a button the causes the Flash movie to play again
  1. Create a new folder called Flash Action on your personal drive space. Save everything to do with this project in that folder.

  2. Start a new project in Flash.

  3. Leave the frame speed and movie size set for the defaults.

  4. For this project you will create several symbols and layers, and have them appear at different times in the movie.

  5. You may choose the attributes you wish, but you must have the following:
  6. Save your project as Flash Action.

  7. Create three rectangular buttons:
  8. You may set whatever attributes you wish for the buttons.

  9. The three buttons should remain in the stage from the beginning to the end of the movie.

  10. The buttons will perform the following actions:
  11. Once you have all of the objects and layers created, save the movie and play it.

  12. Next, set the frame properties of frames 24, 50, and 85 to stop.

  13. The first button you will work with is the Play Again Button.

  14. Right click on the Play Again button, then select Properties.

  15. On the Instance Properties window, click the Actions Tab.



  16. Click on the + button and select Go To.

  17. In the Frame box, set frame 1.

  18. In the Control Box check Got to and Play.

  19. This instructs the button to go to frame one and play the movie.

  20. Try this button out by clicking anywhere along the timeline and then clicking the button (remember to enable button actions).

  21. In a similar manner, program the Continue and Show Text buttons.

  23. Save the folder in your "Hand In" folder on your personal Disk space so that this project can be graded.
