Adobe Acrobat

When you have finished this project, you will be able to:
use Adobe Acrobat software to publish a document to the Web
describe the circumstances under which you would use Adobe Acrobat

  1. The purpose of this project is to introduce you to the use of Adobe Acrobat software to publish a document to the Web

  2. We use Adobe Acrobat as a way to publish finished documents from software we use that other people may not have. Eg. You might be using an obscure piece of software to create a special printed page. If the person reading your web page does not have that piece of software, they will not be able to view the work you have done. By using Adobe Acrobat, to create the finished project, everyone who has "Adobe Acrobat Reader" (Which is free from the internet) can view you finished project.

  3. Create a new project folder on your drive called Acrobat. Save everthing related to this project in this folder.

  4. Use Word to create a document that:
  5. Save the document as "Acrobat".

  6. Next, you need to print the file to a "PostScript" printer. Most printers today use "Postscript" Printing Language. The Printer in the computer lab uses this language to create documents

  7. Click on File on the Menu Bar, then select Print.

  8. Change the printer to the Lab 128-HP 4050 Lab ROSSSHEPPARD (a PostScript printer) and check "Print to File".

  9. Click OK. (Print)

  10. When prompted, save then file as Acrobat - with a type of Printer Files (*.prn). The extension PRN will be added.

  11. Open Explorer and change the file name to Acrobat.prn to Acrobat.ps.

  12. Go to a work station that has Adobe Acrobat on it and start Adobe Acrobat Distiller.

  13. Open your document called Acrobat.ps

  14. Distill the document and save it as a PDF file.

  15. Make sure you save the new PDF file in your new project folder.

  16. Create a new Simple Web page for this project..

  17. Create a link on that page to the PDF file you created.

  18. On the link, be sure to add caption stating the type and size of the file;" 28k PDF file", for example.

  19. Click here to see the marking guide for this project.

  20. Once you have finished the Web page, put the project into your "Hand In" Folder.
