Adding Video to Your Home Page

When you have finished this project, you will be able to:
add video to your Web page
download and use video files
use a media player program

describe the following terms:

  • avi file
  • mpeg file

  1. Create a new folder and call it Video.

  2. For this assignment, you will be collecting some videos from the World Wide Web, as well as making a video yourself.

  3. The easiest method of using a video file is to download it from the Internet. Do a search for AVI FILES. Download two files. Note that the videos that you download must contain appropriate content for a school project.

  4. You must use public domain files - files for which you have permission to use on your web page.

  5. Open Index file that you have been working on in previous projects.

  6. Do NOT embed the video source in your page - create a link to the video file by clicking Insert on the Menu Bar then Movie. Navigate to your movie file, then click open.

  7. Each link to the videos must be a caption that contains the file name, the file type, and the size. For example:

    Mickey visits Toronto
    1.2 MB MPEG file

  8. View your Web page in the browser. When the link is clicked, the video should play using the Windows Media Player.

  9. Repeat this for the other files - for a total of two video files associated with your page.

  10. Add at least one MPEG video to your page.

  11. The next step will be to add a video file that you have created.

  12. Ask your teacher for the video camera. Have a partner record a short greeting that you make.

  13. Download the video onto your H: drive using the Digital Imaging Workstation.

  14. As part of the link, add an image source for a picture of you. Change the text of the link to read "click on me to hear my greeting".

  15. Test and revise the page as necessary.

  16. Click here to see the marking guide for this project.

  17. Save the project folder in your "Hand In" folder on your personal disk space so that this project can be graded..
