B field around a wire

The magnetic field around a current carrying wire is found using the first left hand rule. The thumb of the left hand points in the direction of electron flow (the opposite direction as conventional flow). The fingers are curled around the wire and indicate the direction of the magnetic field. ( The direction a north mono-pole will move or the direction a compass will point)
