The third left hand rule is used to determine the force on a wire caused by charged particles moving in a magnetic field. Remember, all components act at right angles to each other. The thumb points in the direction of electron flow, the fingers points in the direction of the magnetic field, and the palm indicates the direction of the magnetic force.
